Category 1 solar lenses are slightly tinted, and filter 20 to 57% of sunlight. This type of index is recommended for low sunlight, for example in winter or for cloudy days. This type of index is strongly discouraged in very sunny conditions.
Category 0 solar lenses are clear or have a very light tint. They filter 0 to 19% of sunlight. They are generally worn for protection or aesthetic comfort. This filtration category is very light. The amount of light entering the eye is superior to 80%. Category 0 lenses do not protect from the sun or UV rays in the event of exposure.
